Joel King was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and graduated from Lakeville High School before
moving to California. After studying film at UCLA, Joel became a member of the International
Photographers Guild as a motion picture cameraman and entered into a 30-year Hollywood career
working as a camera operator and Director of Photography. Joel worked on feature films and
television with such greats as Barbra Streisand, John Travolta, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Lemmon,
Prince, Dennis Hopper, Gregory Peck, Jeff Bridges, Steven Spielberg (Dual), and Martin Scorsese
(Steadicam, Raging Bull). In addition to his film work, Joel photographed hundreds of television
commercials, earning 12 CLIO awards and spending a dozen years filming commercials for McDonald's.
Following his days in Hollywood, Joel worked for several years in Chicago exclusively for 32West
Productions with director Corky Arnold; and in Minnesota he continued to work on movies (Grumpier
Old Men, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Graffiti Bridge, Iron Will, Feeling Minnesota) and filming several
TV commercials (Minnesota Lottery, Grain Belt Beer, and more) before opening up his own photography
studio. Today, you can find Joel at his studio in Henderson, MN, 45 minutes south of Minneapolis.
